Eamonn Doyle

From September 12th to January 26th, 2020

Extensive tour of the most recent work by Irish photographer Eamonn Doyle (Dublin, 1969), centered, like almost all his work, on Dublin and its people. From a very personal use of cutting and framing, Doyle’s images move from stillness to frantic dynamism, from solitude to the community to end up presenting a unique vision, endowed with a unique rhythm, of the Irish capital.

Eamonn Doyle (Dublin, 1969) has made his hometown and those who walk its streets the central theme of an internationally recognized work as one of the most original proposals of contemporary artistic photography.

From a very personal use of cut-out and framing, Doyle’s images move from stillness to frantic dynamism, from individual solitude to the urban community to end up presenting a unique vision, endowed with a unique rhythm, of the Irish capital and its people. This exhibition, which allows you to appreciate his work for the first time in Spain, presents his work over the last few years, mainly the so-called “Dublin Trilogy”, composed of the series i, ON, and End, in which he puts in all its fullness the rhythm, as fulminating as it is sentimental, with which Doyle’s camera reflects the city.

Together with the Dublin trilogy, his most recent work is also exhibited: the K series, undoubtedly his most enigmatic and personal work: color photographs, in large format, of a series of spectral figures that, located against the violent bottom of the coast West of Ireland or in the grim landscape of Extremadura, they constantly change shape. Both the works and the way they are installed allude to the Irish tradition of keening, a vocal lament for the dead, and are born in part of the premature loss of the artist’s brother and mother. On the other hand, the photographs of this series made in Spain continue the initiative that MAPFRE Foundation has maintained for years, supporting the work of active photographers that it exhibits with the task of carrying out specific work in our country.
