Miró – General Ticket

Espacio Miró

Permanent Exhibition

Joan Miró (Barcelona 1893-Palma de Mallorca 1983) is considered one of the most influential artists in the history of twentieth-century art. Thanks to his creative wealth, his powerful language of symbols and his passionate vitality he was able to develop an aesthetic vocabulary, personal and unique, with which he captivated painters as significant as Pollock, Motherwell, Rothko or Gorky, as well as being an influence constant for later generations.

In the Miró Space, a total of sixty-five works by the Catalan artist and five more by the North American Alexander Calder are exhibited, which entail the creation of a new permanent artistic area in the Fundación MAPFRE rooms. In this collection we can appreciate the elements and figures that starred in his works: the stars of tremulous light, the satellites of intense colors, the woman blurred by the flight of a bird, the sun of relentless force and the watchful moon and companion. All these symbols are distributed in the purity of the canvas, where the subtle line of the horizon masterfully distributes the magic of the firmament and the strength of the earth. A telluric energy that always fed the soul of the Catalan artist.

The works that comprise the collection correspond mostly to the last two decades of his life, the sixties and seventies. An era that witnessed a dynamic and profuse work in which Miró, far from accommodating himself due to his public notoriety, took up some of the motives present in his career to reinterpret them in new infinite spaces. Visiting this exhibition is an opportunity to learn more about the personality of the Catalan teacher, who always understood art as a tool for open dialogue with the viewer.

To enter the Espacio Miró is to share the artist’s desire and, at the same time, to understand how his universe is in a constant search for harmony and balance. An authentic invitation to know the texture and color that predominated in their deepest dreams.
